There have been leaked photos and various threads on the new up and coming Star Wars Death Star 75159 UCS and I’ve avoided jumping on the band wagon until we knew for certain what to expect.
Well it looks like CM4SCI over at Eurobricks forums has posted the following photos of the new set on public display at the LEGO store in Arundel Mills over in the US. With this in mind its likely that LEGO are no longer guarding this secret (announcement was penned for 1st September) and its time to talk about 2016’s second Star Wars UCS.
The set consists of 4,016 pieces and is very similar to the previous Death Star (10188), but we get 213 additional pieces this time round. The set has some display factor, but is clearly aimed at the play factor. I’ve always found this difficult to understand, as the price point of the UCS sets normally cause parents to shy away from buying these sets for kids.
Like with the previous set we are also treated to one of the largest minifigure counts of any LEGO set – A massive 24 in total! In summary the set has the following minifgures:
- Han Solo
- Luke Skywalker
- Princess Leia Organa
- Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker
- Obi-Wan Kenobi
- Stormtrooper Han Solo
- Stormtrooper Luke Skywalker
- Imperial Astromech Droid AKA R3-M3 – !!I think this is new!!
- Death Star Droid
- 2 x Stormtroopers
- 2 x Death Star Gunners
- 2 x Death Star Troopers
- Imperial Officer
- Imperial Navy Officer
- Grand Moff Tarkin
- Darth Vader
- 2 x Emperor’s Royal Guards
- Emperor Palpatine
I guess a small disappointment is we only get 1 new minifigure out of the 24.
To finish off I also posted the last of CM4SCI’s pictures of a LEGO employee diligently building away, just to show this isn’t some shonky photo-shopped leak and actually comes from a LEGO store itself.
For those who missed out on the last Death Star UCS this may be a great opportunity to grab a slightly (and i mean SLIGHTLY) modernized version without paying through the nose (myself included). If you already own 10188 or was hoping for a more die hard display piece, this version may come as a bit of a disappointment.
Keen to know everyone’s thoughts on this, so feel free to drop a comment or two and lets get the discussion going.
