Lego Dimensions has just announced an expansion “Phase 2” to the successful real life to digital game.
Lego Dimensions released last year with the quirky put your controller down and build, paying homage to the humble Lego brick. The user is enticed into Lego Dimensions by building a detailed Lego portal (about an hour to build depending if you have kids getting involved) and then enters into digital world of wonder via one of the many gaming consoles. Upon entering the world it is soon jeopardized with Lord Vortech attempting to destroy all the various Lego dimensions. The mix up of Batman trying to defeat Sauron, Springfield Nuclear plant going into meltdown or Hal 9000 causing havoc is a pure delight. This leaves the player hanging on to the next rift and intrusion wondering what the next crazy mix up will bring. Throw in the various intricate puzzles and real world builds portalling into the game and you have a mind bending/occupying game that will keep even the most picky gamer occupied for hours.
Now fast forward to June 2016 and Lego / TT Games go and throw in some classic 80’s and 90’s themed expansions that take Lego dimensions to a new level and screams out to all those 20-40 year olds – Please spend your money!
Based on the announcements from E3 we can expect the following themes:
- The Goonies
- Sonic The Hedgehog
- Knight Rider
- Lego Batman Movie
- Harry Potter
- Powerpuff Girls
- Adventure Time
- Mission Impossible
They will come in a variety of Packs (Story, Team, Level and Fun).
Personally I can’t wait to get my hands on the Goonies Pack and go nuts with the Sloth character (playing homage to my childhood in the wonderful 80’s!!). Also let’s not forget Sonic The Hedgehog, with such a strong pedigree and importance to the games industry it seems fitting that Sonic should make an appearance (Clever move by Lego / TT Games).
For those who haven’t jumped on the Lego Dimensions bandwagon yet JB HIFI (Australia) has a sale on at the moment, which should help to make it more affordable (my only complaint – high retail price)
