Just over an hour ago LEGO officially launched LEGO Ideas 21306 Yellow Submarine due to hit our shelves from the 1st November 2016. We first heard this set had made it through the third 2015 review back in June this year. Since then the gurus at LEGO and the designer Kevin Szeto have been hard at work getting this idea ready for mass production.
The set is designed on the iconic yellow submarine from the animated 1968 musical movie created by The Beatles. The set includes over 550 pieces, 4 x minifigures (plus the boob) and will retail at USD 59.99 / EUR 59,99 / GBP 49.99. No news on AUD price yet, but hazard a guess at $80-90 range.
The model itself has had a few adjustments through the review process with the inclusion of two tone yellow/orange scheme, improved periscopes and chunkier keel and nose cone. All I can say is it’s a real fun little set.
The minifigures (George Harrison, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and The Boob) are an absolute delight and for anyone out there struggling for 60’s themed minifigures for MOCs your options just dramatically improved! As with the model they have been spiced up a bit from the original design and looks like we have some newly designed hair pieces and faces, which will hopefully slowly filter into other themes in the future.
LEGO has also launched with an awesome little animated video which is well worth watching (LEGO Yellow Submarine Video).
