Just over a year ago 2 x LEGO Ideas were selected from the last review panel of 2015. The first to hit general release was the hugely successful LEGO Ideas Yellow Submarine 21306, but ever since this set went on sale we have been eagerly awaiting the second grander set to be released. Well today liftoff got a little bit closer with the first teaser image of the LEGO Ideas Apollo 11 Saturn V Rocket.
As you would expect the LEGO designers have tweaked and finalised the design to ensure it is optimised for commercial launch (based on current molds, colour palette, etc…). One prominent change is the aerospike nozzle (spike/pylone) above the nose cone. The original design submitted by saabfan and whatsuptoday utilised a now retired girder piece, so makes sense it was altered. Original design below:
No news on set number, piece count or dimensions, but based on the original design specs the model will likely stand just over 1m high and have ~1,100 piece count. At a guess I would estimate the set will retail at AUD $199.99 / USD $139.99 / GBP £119.99
Looks like we will be getting the moon lander as well!
One thing LEGO has confirmed is the set will go on sale from June 2017.
