LEGO IDEAS – FIRST 2017 REVIEW WINNER – TRON LEGACY LIGHT CYCLE

LEGO IDEAS – FIRST 2017 REVIEW WINNER – TRON LEGACY LIGHT CYCLE

The results (few days back!) are in for the first 2017 review of LEGO Ideas and the winner is – Tron Legacy Light Cycle by BrickBros UK and I couldn’t be happier. After the recent round of large LEGO Ideas sets (not including Women of Nasa) I can finally not worry about my wallet when I grab this awesome little set. For those that don’t know Tron Legacy is one of my all time favorite movies. It’s a riot of retro colour and Daft Punk tingling music that screams to be on full blast in the home theatre!

Quick recap – The set has been designed around Sam Flynn’s Light Cycle from the 2010 Disney movie Tron Legacy and is mounted on the Tron grid. Considering the visuals, the design cleverly captures the essence of the grid (Tron environment is the circuit board from ENCOM’s computer mainframe). Blue represents the power grid lines running through the Light cycle, grid base and Sam Flynn minifigure represent the good side of the mainframe (Orange/yellow being the opposite/bad at least in Tron Legacy).

Sadly there are always casualties and with this round being on the larger size that means 10 eager and dedicated designers that didn’t make the cut – cue the sad face. To recap see list below from the group:

Despite the LEGO Ideas team deciding not to make the Surf Rescue project into an official LEGO Ideas set, LEGO made a special mention that they would work with the family on an unspecified basis. Fingers crossed we see some future sets with the sunsmart message?!

Happy Building!
