After what has seemed like heaps of teasers via social media recently, LEGO has finally announced the LARGEST Minecraft set to date. LEGO Minecraft The Mountain Cave 21137 comes in at a crazy eye boggling 2,863 pieces and will definitely be a talking piece for the AFOL community or hours upon hours upon hours of fun and joy for kids (the latter for me).

Though I’m not a personal fan I have seen from the sideline the Minecraft theme growing from strength to strength. This set really does take the playability to a new level with lots of incorporated features and functions. Of course the most noteworthy being the mincraft track/cart and the old trustworthy light brick for that added magic. To cap off the set is modular allowing for multiple configurations.

The Mountain Cave will retail at USD $249.99 / CAD $299.99GBP £259.99. No official news on the Australian pricing, but would hazard a guess in the region of AUD $349.99. General release is pegged for the 1st July, but for those who order online via the LEGO Shop you will get early VIP access from the 15th June.

  1. The Minecraft sets are generally pretty good, but a lot suffer from having loads of empty space without much in it (kinda like Minecraft, to be fair). They often only have one play feature despite prices.

I think this, from what I can tell without actually being able to mess with it, has a lot of great features packed in to where there’s not really wasted space. It looks like what I’d expect, although I predict people serious about it will be expanding the mountain substantially.

The vertical dimension is somewhat small, for it being called a mountain. It’s kinda odd how flat is it on top. For the geography buffs, it’s more like a mesa, with that single odd bit sticking up. I sorta wish it would have been pointier and more layered upwards, instead of what it is.
