With 2018 rapidly approaching it’s now time to look forward to what is no doubt going to be a big year for anniversary sets and celebration events around the world for LEGO’s 60th anniversary. To kick off we finally have an official image of a special 60th anniversary promotional set – 40290.
The promotional set is a celebration of 4 classic sets covering LEGO’s key foundation themes – Medieval / City / Pirates / Space. Each micro build is cleverly designed and incorporated into a nice LEGO built display stand. There will be no surprises what sets the LEGO team decided to depict (well maybe not city – surprised it wasn’t one of its many police stations haha). Summary below:
- 1978 LEGO Castle 375
- 1990 LEGO Airport Shuttle 6399
- 1989 LEGO Black Seas Barracuda 6285
- 1979 LEGO Galaxy Explorer 497
One thing to also note is the use of two new/resurrected LEGO graphics. First up is the new 60 year logo which I’m sure will adorn more sets to come in 2018 and secondly the return of the LEGO logo with coloured stripes (1965-1972) along the iconic image (black and white) of a boy playing with LEGO.
The set will have 421 elements and will be released as promotional gift set based on a purchase (minimum of $125) via the LEGO Online Shop or LEGO certified stores between the 28th January – 14th February 2018.
Note – this is based on the North American Calendar and I can’t confirm if there will be regional variations yet (often is for Oz), but will keep you posted (hopefully not).
