I have to admit my LEGO preferences normally lay with the Star Wars and Creator Modular themes. Therefore I’m a relative newbie when it comes to the DC Comics and Marvel Super Heroes theme.
Of course how boring would my blog be if I only covered these themes, so I decided to bite the bullet and grab this little gem in clearance at Myer. To be clear I’m a big fan of the movie and the minifigures look awesome, so it wasn’t hard convincing myself to part with my cash!
LEGO released this set back at the start of the year to mark the release of the Batman vs Superman movie. It formed part of a modest series of 3 sets and was the smallest retailing at $19.95 (note – picked up in Myer for $14.95). Piece count stands at a small 92 and comes with 2 minifigures, but considering the price this is a great value set especially for avid minifigure collectors.
To kick off with we have the main highlight of the entire set – BAD ARSE BATMAN Minifigure! The armored suit is awesome and really captures the heavily armed Batman from the movie. He is also armed with his kryptonite gun and to top off LEGO have included a glow in the dark minifigure head that shows the eyes glowing in the dark.
Taking off Batman’s armor we have a richly detailed torso and legs along with a starchy cape (strange when you consider Superman’s cape is out of the newer material LEGO has been using lately). We also have the alternative face printing which only really covers the mouth due to Batman’s hood covering his eyes.
In any other set Superman would be rated the best minifigure, but in this case Batman steals the thunder (he really is a one of a kind minifigure – great job LEGO!). Torso printing is detailed and highlights the new modern era suit that Kal-El sports. He has two facial expressions that are at odds with each other. One crazy angry laser shooting eyes expression and the other a little “why hi there“.
Hair piece is a new funky hairstyle and as mentioned previously he dons a new fabric cape. Sadly Legs are a bit bog standard and all one colour which is a shame. Especially when you consider that the Superman minifigure in Sky High Battle (76046) set has two tone.
Oh boy to end on with the minifigures we have this weird flick plastic jumper thing – It’s bad bad bad! I used it once to test and noticed the legs were stuck to the jumper piece. Once I finally got Superman off I noticed small marks on the legs. This is a terrible design and would throw this straight in the bin!!!
Finally we have the build itself which sets the scene for the feuding super heroes. It’s a simple little rooftop scene that LEGO has incorporated a few play elements into the design. The Bat signal is a cool little addition and unique. I also love the kryptonite crystal (taken from the Ninjago theme).
To end on I honed my crappy skills and tried to recreate an action scene (please stop laughing I know it’s bad). If nothing else this is a great set to pick up some pretty awesome minifigures and I would highly recommend to all those collectors out there.
